My experience at

JMU UREC

Not only am I passionate about marketing, I also strive for a healthy and balanced lifestyle! I started working at UREC to motivate those into a healthier lifestyle. As a UREC Fitness Manager, I play a huge role in making the fitness center a welcoming environment for all. Come take a look at a few of my favorite ways to live a balanced life as well as my impact at UREC.

My Impact

Working at UREC can be very rewarding to me! Take a look at how I impact others as a Fitness Manager!

01

Maintaining a spotless facility

No one wants to work out in a dirty and messy gym. One thing about UREC is that it's the cleanest facility on campus! I take pride in ensuring that the fitness center is spotless so everyone can enjoy their lift. From picking up plates, to wiping down all benches and machines, my goal is to keep the fitness center clean.

03

Being a Leader on Shift

As Fitness Manager, I am the one person in charge of the entire fitness center when I am on shift. This means that I lead a team of 2-4 Fitness Assistants in securing the area and making sure that everyone has a great workout. Being a leader to me means listening to those around me to help influence day-to-day decisions that I make on shift. This may include fitness assistant zone rotations, how to handle certain situations, etc.

02

Keeping Others Safe

Helping participants lift safely is a huge part of my job! Safety is a top priority at UREC, which means there are lots of rules to ensure everyone's safety. Making sure that clips are being used, participants have closed toe/heel shoes, and keeping bags locked away all contribute to everyone's overall safety. My favorite part is spotting/assisting participants with form, I love that I can positively contribute to their workout!

04

Emergency Responder

Being a Fitness Manager means that I am also an emergency responder in the building. I am one of the few managers that assists with responding to life-threatening medical emergencies. I am First Aid, CPR, and AED certified, so I am well prepared for any medical emergency at UREC.

Off Shift

UREC has also influenced me to live a healthier and balanced lifestyle. Check out a few ways I do that below!

Weight Lifting

Weight lifting is by far my favorite way to exercise! I started a consistent gym schedule back in 2022, and it has stuck with me ever since. I enjoy being able to challenge myself, and set specific personal goals in the gym.

Healthy Diet

Recently, I have started incorporating a healthy diet into my life. I realized how important it is to pay attention to what I'm putting in my body. I started prioritizing fruits and veggies into my diet as well as focusing on my protein intake. I have realized that eating foods that are better for me, make me feel good and energized.
